Certification of scalesis an inspection byan authorized body to determine the prescribed characteristics of the measuring device.

After inspecting the scale, the authorized body determines whether the scale is in accordance with the approved type, i.e. whether it meets the prescribed metrological requirements.

If the scale meets the prescribed requirements, it is stamped with a seal or a protective sticker. After the scale is calibrated, the scale is sealed to protect against unauthorized adjustment.

If the authorized body determines that a certain measuring device is not in accordance with the approved type of measuring device, that is, that it does not meet the prescribed metrological requirements, it issues a decision rejecting the certification of the measuring device/scale.

Only measuring scales that have a Type Approval Decision can be certified. The decision on the approval of the measuring instrument type is issued by the Directorate for Measurements , at the request of the domestic manufacturer, the authorized importer, or the authorized distributor of the foreign measuring instrument manufacturer.
